Heard Around The Campfire
Rock Island KOA at Camelot
The first Saturday night camper social was held on August 8th and was a well attended event. If you missed this first of hopefully many socials please plan to attend on September 12th when the social will be held in conjunction with the King and Queen pool party. Camelot will again provide beer, wine, soft drinks and snacks. If anyone cares to bring an appetizer that would be wonderful. Join us on September 12th to close the pool for the season and also to say goodbye to Alison who will be heading off to Minneapolis for 13 weeks. Stop in, have a drink, share a story or two and relax with friends. It all starts at 7 PM.
The challenge, cook the best chili in Camelot as voted by the citizens of the realm. Prizes to be awarded and the winner could get a free trip to Europe, dinner with Barack Obama at the White House or one of many other exotic prizes.
Oh, I?m sorry, that is the prize list for the year end party. Anyway, come join the fun on September 19th. Taste, vote and flatulate for a great cause, Care Camps, and see if Mike can regain the crown as best chili maker in the land. Start time will be 6 PM in the community room.
Miss the Luau? You missed the Fun!
What a great event. Our fourth Luau was attended by more guests than any past event proving the popularity of the event and pot luck. Talk about great food, I could not believe all the food campers brought to share.. As always Mike Miller cooked a great pig with most of it gone by 9 PM.
For entertainment there were games for the kids, music for everyone and of course the Duck race 50/50 to support Care Camps. We had thousands of kids (maybe 40) kicking their feet in the pool to encourage their favorite duck into the skimmer. The winning duck number 88 was held by Barb Lundberg making her the winner of $85.
How about another great 50/50 raffle by Linda ad Sharon who have consistently generated enthusiasm and support for the 50/50 raffle, our biggest generator of contributions for Care Camps. The winner was Fred Correa taking home $118. A special thanks to all who volunteered to help make ready and clean up after the event. You are super.
If you missed the first Great (blind golf cart) Race for the kids you missed a truly fun and funny event. Eleven teams competed to run three obstacle courses using a golf cart, a blind folded driver and a navigator to give the driver verbal directions. Fortunately no spouse teams entered so many marriages and lives were saved. However, several friendships were close to extinction when all was over.
The race started with Brad and Brian, team named the BBs, oh how original. Total time, well let's just say they still like each other after withdrawing from the third course of the race. In the end it came down to the teams of Beans & Rice against Bump & Grind. Both teams purchased opportunities to rerun courses. When all was over Bump & Grind (Dawn Correa & Patty Graves) won with a time of 3 minutes 1 second over Beans & Rice at 3 minutes 9 seconds. Thanks all who helped raise $110 for the Care Camps kids. See you next year.
